Ebola: What Summit Is Doing and What You Can Do

If you’ve watched television, listened to the radio, or surfed the Internet over the last month, you’ve seen or heard something about the 2014 Ebola epidemic. We wanted to update you on what Summit has done in response and what you can do to help—because we can all do something. What Summit has done:

  1. We’ve prayed and will continue to pray for the physical and spiritual health of individuals and families affected by the disease, health care workers, and organizations on the ground in West Africa serving those affected.
  2. We’ve stayed informed of the crisis through Children of the Nations (COTN) and reputable news sources. We recommend the COTN and Samaritan’s Purse websites, as well as Ebola Deeply, a comprehensive news and information site dedicated specifically to education about Ebola.
  3. We’ve contributed financially toward COTN-Sierra Leone's Fight Ebola Fund. COTN is one of our partners, and the work they do to protect the vulnerable and stem injustice is in line with the work we want to see in the world. The Fight Ebola Fund includes building a fence around COTN’s site, stockpiling medical supplies, implementing hand-washing stations, purchasing an emergency vehicle, and hiring additional security, among other things.

What you can do:

  1. Pray. This is the single most important thing we can all do to effect change. You can sign up to be a Prayer Partner with COTN here.
  2. Stay informed about what's happening. Educate yourself, follow the news (see above for our reputable news recommendations), talk to others, and help spread facts and truth.
  3. Contribute financially. There are many great organizations at work in Africa. Choose one that you trust, and give if you are able. If you’re interesting in donating to COTN specifically, you can do that here.
  4. Go, especially if you have medical training. Organizations on the ground in West Africa need as many workers as they can get.
