Summit Students is Back!
This summer was a great one in the life of Summit Students!
We had over 85 students serve at Surge in the City and edgeSERVES across all campuses! That’s thousands of service hours poured into the community by students who are making a big difference in the world around them. We served at local organizations like Clean the World, Community Food and Outreach Center, and Green Up. We also completed projects around Summit, including helping to get our new Lake Mary campus up and running!
We’re excited to kick off the fall and have a lot of great things planned! One of the biggest changes at the Herndon and Lake Mary campuses is that, starting this fall, Surge and The Edge will meet on a new day and time (Waterford was way ahead!). Part of the reason we’re moving to Sundays is to make it easier for students to attend church. Research shows that a student’s participation in church (not just "youth group") has a huge effect on their faith sticking once they leave home. By having Student Ministries meetings around the same time as church service, we hope students will consider attending church, either with their Connect group, leader, or family!
Starting August 30th, Herndon and Lake Mary Student Ministries NEW meeting times are:
Surge (middle school): Sunday from 4-5:45 p.m.
The Edge (high school): Sunday from 7:15-9 p.m.
Along with the start of a new school year, we are excited for some great opportunities for students to connect with others and with God outside of the normal Student Ministries environment when we head to camp! Middle schoolers will have a chance to hear from Surge leaders at Surge at Soutwind as they share stories from the Bible and how these lessons apply to their lives. Students will break into small groups and share their thoughts, and have quiet moments to reflect and spend time with God. They're sure to have a blast playing octaball and wiffle ball, swimming, and canoeing, all while connecting with other students, their leaders, and God. Surge at Southwind will happen September 25th-27th. The high schoolers have a camp of their own, called Edge Goes to the Beach, where high school students will have a chance to unplug and connect with Jesus, their peers, their leaders, and themselves. They'll spend time diving into truth about God's character, His love for us, and what it looks like to love Him back. As always, there is guaranteed to be an insane amount of fun and activities! This event takes place October 22nd-25th.
No matter if your student is joining us for our weekly meetings or for a fun weekend retreat, we hope that he or she will find a place to engage with God and in Christ-centered community!
