Team Summer: Even Further
Summit has been my church home since 2012. After about a year of regularly attending service, I began to feel the pull to dig in, connect, and serve. Just before the summer season, at the beginning of a service, Deanna McLellan came on stage and spoke about how they would love to welcome new volunteers for Team Summer. I turned to my husband Dan and said “I want to do that!”.
I signed up, attended an orientation where we were introduced to what serving in Base Camp can look like at Summit, and later I was scheduled for an observation day in the area that I expressed interest in. When I walked into the nursery, I instantly felt welcomed. My morning went by very quickly in our Walker's room with playing games, singing songs, having snack time, and teaching these little ones just how much Jesus loves them. I was so impressed by these volunteers— they gave so much love to each and every child as if they were their own. And in turn, it pulled me even further into this church family. I knew that I would enjoy serving, but what I didn't expect was the amazing and supportive friendships I would gain through serving.
Team Summer is a fantastic opportunity to serve! Especially if you are at all curious about serving in Base Camp, this is a great time to try it. It is also a great way to connect with other volunteers in this area and a wonderful way to serve the families of our church. I truly feel that by serving in this form, we are helping to further the mission of our church; as well as teaching our children some of the basic truths: God made them, God loves them, and Jesus wants to be their friend forever!
For me, what started out as just an idea to serve during the summer has turned into joining this amazing team of volunteers year-round. And now having a child of my own, I can not even begin to express how much I appreciate this group of amazing people. I know that they will care for my son just as much as I care for their children. That love, care, and service means the world to me. I would not have been fortunate enough to experience any of this if it had not been for Team Summer.
We want to our give our Base Camp volunteers a break for the summer, but we need your help! Be a part of Team Summer.
