We’re continuing in our series of updates from our global partners and what’s been in store for them throughout 2020. In this week’s check-in, we get to hear from Africa Windmill Project.

Founded by a Summit family, Africa Windmill Project seeks to establish food security in Malawi by educating farmers on irrigation techniques and sustainable agricultural practices. Starting with familiar methods and expanding on them over time, they are helping to provide means of growing crops year-round, not just during the rainy season.

Listen in as Waterford Campus Pastor Garry Abbott, talks with Summit partners and Africa Windmill Project founders, John and Kimberly Drake, as well as Gibozi Mphanzi, Country Director for AWP.

Prayer requests from John and Kimberly:

  • Continued health for the AWP staff and farmers, and protection from COVID-19

  • The new government in Malawi has been a blessing—pray for this to continue

  • The supply chain has been disrupted due to COVID-19. Pray for continued access to the seed, pesticide, and fertilizer needed by the farmers.

Other ways you can get involved:

  • Volunteer stateside to support AWP—opportunities could include addressing letters, website upkeep, making phone calls, or sharing with friends. You can email Nathan to inquire more.

  • Watch the movie The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, available here on Netflix.
