The New Herndon Annex Is Now Open!

After a summer of construction, we’re excited to announce that the Herndon Annex is now open for our preschool through 3rd grade kids! This past weekend, K-3rd grade kids and their parents got to experience the reconstructed space, which has been turned into a New York City subway station! Fun graffiti, directional posters, and brickwork add to the subway feel. All of the changes will help our Base Camp kids engage with what they’re learning each week at service.

Sticking with the subway theme, our check-in stations are now portable ticket booths where you’ll check your kids in with a “metro card.” (Parents, no worries! They’re actually the same key tags you used before, and check-in works the same way.) The new check-in and check-out locations will make the process much easier and reduce people traffic jams. Once you’re checked in, you’ll walk under the Brooklyn Bridge as you drop your kids off in their classroom, and on your way out you’ll get the chance to check out the new lighthouse in the Ocean, which has also been remodeled! (Parents of 4- and 5-year-olds, you’ll still access the Ocean in the same way you did before the remodel.)

Each classroom has better storage systems to keep our volunteers organized and effective—because when volunteers can easily find materials, it means they get to spend more time interacting with your kids. Big windows also make it easier for parents and staff to check on children and volunteers without disrupting the lesson.

Speaking of our volunteers, there’s a brand-new gathering place for our Base Camp team to grab a snack, read up on the day’s lessons, and connect with each other!

Coming soon… the Large Group room is still in progress, but soon it will look like a warehouse district with improved light and sound systems, new carpets, and a refurbished stage! Kids are going to have a blast in Large Group, where they worship through song and dance and hear what the Bible has to say about the month’s Big Idea. It’s fun, engaging, loud, and silly, and they’ll love it in this new space!

If you and your child have never been to Foothills (elementary school ministry), the classrooms open 15 minutes before each service starts so that you can grab a cup of coffee and a seat in service while your child enjoys connecting with their small group leader. Small group leaders serve every Sunday so that they can build a strong relationship with you and your kids. They’d love to meet you, so please say hi!
