Carly Galloway: How Do You #summitserve?

Carly Galloway is one of those people who was there the year the air conditioning went out at Summit on Easter Sunday. She’s been around for a while. Born in sleepy, beachy Cape Coral, Carly was a student at the University of Central Florida when she first attended Summit. “There was a big group of us from Campus Crusade,” she says, “45 when I last counted, who all started going to Summit when it was at Winter Park High School. I remember the first time we carpooled there in 10 cars… It was pretty epic.” Carly says it was Summit and friends from her Connect group that kept her in Orlando after earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. That, and she met the man who would later become her husband during those years as well.

Carly first got involved by joining the First Impressions team at the Waterford campus. After serving in that capacity for a year and a half, she felt a pull to invest more time with the students at Waterford. She’s been volunteering with Surge (middle school ministry) for just over a year now as a 7th grade girls group leader, and she loves it.

“They are wild, crazy, and so much fun!” she says. “I really feel like it’s where I am meant to be right now. I love being engaged with the kids, because they make me look at my own faith in a whole new way.”

When talking to Carly, it’s apparent how important a life of service is to her. “I try to think about my time in terms of tithing,” she explains. “The Bible says that we are to give a tenth of everything, not just our money, right back to Him. This is just a small part of what I am able to give back to God and His Kingdom. I also really enjoy doing it, and get so much back from the girls that it makes it worth it in the end. If we serve out of an overflow of God’s love, He’ll continue to pour back into us exactly what we need to do His work.”
