The Sermon on the Mount
“Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.” —Matthew 5:1-2
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus addresses prayer, marriage, and the narrow gate. He describes the eternal impact of loving our enemies and giving to the needy. Jesus uses his words to paint a picture and set a standard for what living as we’re called to be ought to look like. We see a glimmer of the Kingdom we were created for.
And in that glimmer, we not only see just how far from the mark we are, but also the blameless Savior who fulfills every law on our behalf because we can’t on our own.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus uses his words to paint a picture and set a standard for what living as we’re called to be ought to look like. And in those words we see a glimmer of the Kingdom we were created for and just how far from the mark we are. But we also see a blameless Savior who fulfills each and every law on our behalf.

Week 13

Jesus came to give us life— spiritual life. It’s a life that is a call to action. It’s a narrow path, it’s producing good fruit, and it’s making the one who gave us life the foundation on which we build.

Week 12
This passage encourages the honest asking of God in prayer— a simple, asking prayer with a loving father. The focus and revelation of the prayer points much more to God's provision than our part in asking. If we ask, seek, and knock, he will give and open.

Week 11
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

Week 10
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Week 6
When Jesus talks about giving, praying, and fasting in secret he is exposing our motivation. Our hearts have to be supernaturally changed in order to have righteous motivation. And that change can only happen through repentance.

Week 5
In Matthew chapter five, Jesus exposes how sin has affected the masculine heart in the form of lust and divorce. But, Jesus shows us true masculinity by laying down his life for us.

Week 3
The Law is the Word of God. Jesus is the point of the Word of God— he came to fulfill it, not abolish it. Apart from Jesus the law condemns us, while the law in Jesus changes us.

The world is dying and decaying. But Jesus calls us to be salt & light in it— light that exposes what is most real and salt that brings out what is most true.

Week 1
Kailey Newkirk | Herndon Campus
If Jesus is who he says he is, then he is the only one with the authority to say who is in God's kingdom and what those in God's kingdom do. It is our decision whether or not we accept that.
